WatchGuard® Announces High-Performance Firebox® Vclass
New Appliances Feature Custom Security ASIC, Enterprise
Networking Functionality, and VPN Scalability Up to 20,000 Tunnels
SEATTLE, WA - April 29, 2002 -- WatchGuard Technologies,
Inc. (Nasdaq: WGRD), a leading provider of Internet security solutions,
entered the larger and distributed enterprise Gigabit firewall market
with the Firebox Vclass line of appliances.
Featuring a custom-built security ASIC (application
specific integrated circuit) at its core, the Firebox Vclass includes
the V100, V80, V60 and V10 appliances, which are specifically designed
to address the performance and flexibility needs of a wide range of customers
running large distributed networks and data center environments. These
products offer a world-class performance range of 10-20,000 IPSec VPN
tunnels and 75-600 Megabit firewall throughput.
"WatchGuard is executing on our vision to expand
the depth and breadth of our offering," said Jean Nassar, senior
vice president of marketing, WatchGuard Technologies. "With the integration
of RapidStream and the roll out of an ASIC-based, high-speed family of
products, we are addressing the needs of customers that require enterprise-class
networking functionality and performance with a comprehensive new class
of appliances. The Firebox Vclass strengthens our long-term strategy and
commitment to address three fundamental security needs - depth of security,
simplicity of implementation and management and vigilance against the
latest threats."
The high-performance Firebox V100 is a compact, one-rack
unit appliance offering two 1-Gigabit Ethernet and two high availability
(HA) ports. It is ideally suited as a Firewall/VPN concentrator for large-scale,
distributed enterprises, data centers and service providers. Networking
features include multi-tenant capability, VLAN, Quality of Service and
server load balancing. The V100 also features 600 Megabit firewall throughput,
300 Megabits per second 3DES VPN performance and up to 20,000 IPSec VPN
tunnels.
Supporting up to 8,000 IPSec tunnels, the Firebox V80
has four 10/100 Fast Ethernet ports and two HA ports with 270 Megabit
firewall and 150 Megabit 3DES VPN throughput. The Firebox V80 is ideal
for large enterprises with large-scale VPN deployments. The Firebox V60
delivers 200 Megabit, wire-speed firewall performance, 100 Megabit 3DES
VPN throughput and supports up to 400 IPSec tunnels. With 75 Megabit firewall,
20 Megabit 3DES VPN throughput and support for 10 IPSec tunnels, the V10
is an excellent match as a VPN endpoint for the Firebox V100, V80 and
V60 appliances. The Firebox V10 can be licensed to support 10 or 25 users.
Consistent with WatchGuard's mission to simplify the
management and deployment of security solutions, the new appliances include
Vcontroller, a robust, Java-based software application that provides an
added layer of security when managing and configuring site-to-site and
site-to-remote VPN locations. An integrated, intuitive icon and wizard-based
graphical user interface (GUI) manages firewall and VPN policies.
WatchGuard is also offering Vclass customers an optional
Centralized Policy Manager (CPM) System. The WatchGuard CPM is a powerful,
highly scalable network management platform. This Java-based, distributed
client/server security system is designed to simplify large-scale deployment
and enforcement. The WatchGuard CPM simultaneously implements centralized
and global management enforcement and contains a drag-and-drop feature
for deploying policies and configurations. This feature enables a network
administrator to implement policies to a single appliance, group of appliances
or an entire network simultaneously. In addition, centralized alarms and
logging offer network administrators a global view of traffic configurations
and activities.
Availability and Support
In addition to depth of solutions and simplicity of management, WatchGuard
is committed to help customers remain vigilant and consistently ready
for the next threat. Every Firebox Vclass product includes a renewable
subscription to our innovative LiveSecurity Service which provides customers
with systematic updates and security intelligence. Backed by a team of
security experts, technical support representatives and trainers, LiveSecurity
includes software updates, broadcasts (threat responses, virus alerts,
information alerts, expert editorials and support flashes), technical
support and online training. The Vclass products are also backed by a
1-year limited hardware warranty. The Firebox Vclass is expected to be
available in the second quarter of 2002.
