Error starting Exchange Management Console for Exchange 2007

Jul 05 2008

Today I started having a problem starting the Exchange Management Console for Exchange 2007. When attempting to run it I would get this error:

Active Directory server [Domain Controller] is not available. Error Message: A local error occured. It was running command 'get-ExchangeAdministrator'.

After performing quite a bit of searching on this problem I found the solution people were advocating was to delete the users profile. Well I was not satisified with that so I kept digging. Being that deleting the profile fixed the problem, It had to be in the users registry or the application data folders. After digging around for almost an hour, I discovered that a saved login credential was the cause of the problem. Deleting the saved login corrected the problem without deleting the user profile.

Quick way to fix: Goto Control Panel, User Accounts, Advanced, Manage Passwords OR Start Run "control keymgr.dll" and delete your credentials matching the server.
